Things That Make You Go: Hmmmm. . . .

Something very interesting has been happening in the Phoenix household. Something very interesting indeed.

Now, Hubby has always been a runner - a faster runner than me (like that's hard). But he's been doing . . . other things lately.

It started with the occasional bike ride with me. First on Red Molly, then on our newest acquisition, The Blue Hornet, an old Schwinn World road bike we got for $25.00 from a team mate. The Hornet is faster than Molly but still no match for Pyro. Its time to get him a quicker set of wheels. Wish I could afford the Zipp variety - course then I'd be chasin' him down hollerin' "Hey, Wait Up!!"

He ran a couple of road races with me. Then, he came to Master's Swimming with me a couple of times.

But, this week. This week he's riding his bike to and from work. And he got up this morning to go swim - by himself. It was my "sleep in day" (woke up at the languid hour of 6:30 a.m.) and I'm swimming tonight in the final Creve Coeur Open Water Swim of the season. He got up and swam 1500. By. Himself.

Hmmmmm.

So, at the risk of discouraging him by noticing what he's up to, I'm outing him. Hey there, Mr. Triathlete In Training Guy! You know, there's a sprint in October at the Rec Plex. S'posed to be a good one. Race ya.

Hah, he's in! TriHubby! Trihubbylete! Let us know how he progresses. Should be interesting. Next thing you know he'll ask for a wetsuit for Christmas. It would be great to have a training partner in the house.

Well, my wood working blog fell flat on it's face, no one wants to read about that crap anyway. None of your blog folks came to visit. What else am I supposed to do while my wife is out running around wearing spandex and other high tech fabrics. Besides if I can reduce my carbon footprint a little by riding my bike to work, call a little attention to global warming, and get a little exersize ... well, We'll see what happens. Phoenix's Dad might have to make a sign for me?

Maybe the Great Phoenix herself (snort - sorry I just cracked myself up) would make a sign for you. And make one of the kids hold it - cuz I'll be huffin' it to try to come in at least a close second to you. Can't let you beat me by too much.

You know what they say about that drug called triathlon. He probably not only wants to see what this thing called triathlon is that has you so geeked, but its also a way for him to expand his athletic horizons, and it sounds like he has a "plan" in mind. Before you know it, all your vacations will revolve around one race or another. LOL! Fun times ahead. And what is that woodworking blog? A joke? I actually came across something like that recently and have no idea why or where. It was weird, actually. I quickly exited. Sorry if it was his.

That's awesome! Now you will have a partner in all your crazy schemes! Early morning running...scary open water swimming...hell's highway bike rides. Sounds pretty romantic to me ;)

Rec Plex is great race for the first timer (I know from experience). Pool swim, flat bike course, and fairly flat run.

Too bad about the WW blog, if I had known I would've checked it out. I have a basement full of equipment that has been gathering dust (literally) for the last year as I have had to choose between tri and WW while I am in school. Tri obviously won out, but once school is over, it is back to the shop!

How fun! Now you can train together, go to races together and share Accelerade and stuff.

Oh no! Don't wait until you find him passed out on the living room floor surrounded by empty gel packets! You must have an intervention now before it's too late and he's spent your life savings on a superduper light carbon fiber bike! That is, as long as the carbon fiber bike isn't sitting under the Christmas tree with your name on it.

Too funny! The force must be strong in you to take him to the darkside. Tri to resist hubby.

OH, he's totally infected. No hope now. At least you both can pursue your addiction together.
